cat got fleas?

catandwoman started this conversation

My cat recently got fleas and I had no idea what to do. He is an inside cat so I never worried about it before. After about 2 months I got rid of the problem and fleas were out of my home. There is an article about cat fleas here at catfleas.blogsavy.com if you would like to check it out. I was shocked some of the things I found out about fleas!

Hey girl back at you,

I had cat , st bernard and puppy and the dogs had fleas but I didn't know never as I was never bitten. Then my sister came to stay with the ex and me and she was chewed up. So I had to bomb the place and wash everything.

It is not fun.

Thanks you have a great evening, too.

I hope so and going to winter nap with kitty if he stays sleeping.

Hey girl,

I'm glad her cat no longer has fleas too.

Having 11 animals myself, I know how it is to be bothered with those pesky noyances.

I hope you have a great night.

thanks. i took him to the vet and we put him on revolution. all the fleas are gone now. i just felt so bad for my cat he was going crazy. i don't have a yard i actually live in an apartment so i have no idea how we would have fleas around here. we are not supposed to have pets. well at the time we weren't but we can now. lol.

it took alot of vacuuming and washing our clothes. we sprayed the apartment with a good spray with igr's that we got from the vet's office. it really helped but it was hell at the time.

Hi

Forget the 7 dust stuff. And there was another one think the same and talked to a man in NE about one of them.. Too iffy for me not a safe bet for the cat in the house.. I talked to I think someone from pet meds on what to do about fleas in apartment and after bombing suppose to spray this along carpet edges lol . I have wall to wall stuff. I didn't use it...

You are welcome on the 800 pet meds info.  Betty White is always talking about it on tv and I get their catalogs plus emails when they have a sale.. Thanks to soulight found a program for gulp senior help with their pets and group up here picks up vet bill have to wait in office till she calls the vet. Then his flea medicine gets paid for by this group. And would his food too if sold at vet office...There is a pet smart nearby so we have discussed that too but I pay for it for now..

I ask for the cheapest price at pet meds and tell them on fixed real fixed income and you have a lot of pets so see if you can get more of discount.

There are others out there but I use pet meds as they are very reliable ...

Have a great night too.

I haven't tried the 7 dust yet. I have just heard about it.

Thats a good idea about getting the vet to fax script to petmeds. Thanks for letting me know.

Have a great night

I thought of using 7 dust in apartment but too many if's cat cat eat it etc...

I had that at mom's ants in the bathroom coming out of the walls, bees in the kitchen from the hood fan ugh

on advantage try getting it from 1 800 petmeds cheaper than vets

they call vet's office and he faxes prescription for it to them...

start new topic dry lips and for humans me and others I eat lots of fat too.

have a good one....

Gee Sheshe,

I don't know because the cat is not an outside cat per se.

We let the cat out in the day time to go play in the backyard. He loves it when we let the dogs out in the yard to play too. We want them to get some fresh air & some sunshine.

The cat spends most time inside. So, I just don't have any idea if that has anything to do with it. Maybe.

My goodness,

Now for our dogs we use Advantage (I think). Its from the Vets office. Its very expensive, however.

I think it also has something to do with the seasons. Some seasons here people complain about having a severe flea problems. Some seasons we have lots of ants. One year we had a major problem with spiders. Then we didn't really have problems with them for a while.

I certainly hope you find a solution for the fleas. There's nothing worse than fleas because they like to bite me as well. I'm a 'big girl' & the fleas will be like forget the dogs & the cats, "we can get a lot of meals off of her".

If you find something that works let me know.

I did hear that if you put epsom salt in the yard that it will dehydrate the fleas, so its good for preventing fleas. I'm told to also put it around the areas that the animals are at,sofas, bedding, etc. I haven't tried that one.

I also heard about a product called "7 dust". Put in yard. Can be found at feed & grain stores, county co-ops, some Walmarts. I'm told to be careful cause it comes in 2 different strengths. One of them is too strong to be around people/pets.

good luck

The very best Flea Collars in the world are the ones that Mother Nature supplies naturally. sheshe030

Hi

I moved from mom's house with grass and no fleas to an apt and fleas on concrete her first summer even though my cat was on revolution had to bomb the place as I got bit bad they were tiny fleas.

I had to change to advantage mulit as the vet said better for fleas in CA and thank goodness no flea problem. I had to wear heavy sigvaris stockings on both legs as the fleas were eating me so bad in the apt and outside and refused to go out to laundry room there were there too.

I put a flea collar in the vacuum bag to kill the eggs

I did everything that summer before bombing here, salt etc.

It took 7 days for him to get rid of the fleas he and I were covered...

It makes me itch to think about it...

We were given a precious cat about a month ago. The family could not keep it because the mom & dad had a baby & another due anyday.

The reason was because no matter what they did they could not get rid of the fleas. The did the bath in Dawn, etc.

When I got the cat home, I also bathed it in Dawn. Sprayed fleas stuff, etc & nothing worked.

So, I decided to go the old fashioned route & bought the cat a 'flea collar'. It worked like a charm. The cat goes outside in our backyard, staying for hours at a time. We also have 10 other animals (dogs & cats). The flea collar is doing a great job.
